Machinery at Silpukhuri plant could not be repaired as the entire staff of the plant were sent to home quarantine after a family member tested COVID-19 positive
GUWAHATI: Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) water supply was disrupted in parts of the city after two machines at Satpukhuri water treatment plant at Uzan Bazar got damaged.
Water supply to GMC areas like Chandmari, Chandmari Colony, Kharghuli, Noonmati, Silpukhuri and its surrounding areas have been affected due to the problem.
The GMC in its update said that two new machines installed at the Satpukhuri water plant got damaged last week. The mechanic who was assigned to look after the machines did not come to the site after his son tested positive for Covid-19. Subsequently, the mechanic and all other staff working at the plant were sent for home quarantine. Water supply in several places under the Satpukhuri plant was partially affected, the notification said.
“Other mechanics of the city do not come to the site due to the coronavirus fear. However, water has been supplied with the remaining machines. Installed capacity of the Satpukhuri treatment plant is 22.50 MLD and its present running capacity is around 15 MLD,” the notification said.
