4 repatriation flights to start landing in Guwahati from today

Guwahati: Four repatriation flights from countries like Ukraine, Moscow, Kuwait and the Philippines are likely to arrive in Guwahati in Assam between May 27 and June 5.

Informing this on Twitter, Assam chief secretary Sanjay Krishna said that the flights will carry people stranded in those countries, mostly students.

This move of Assam government is a part of the pan-India initiative as per which the flights would be directed to Guwahati as well. However, the exact timing of the flights is still not known.

“Four repatriation flights are expected to land in Guwahati Airport between 27th May to 5th June, 2020. The flights scheduled to arrive next week are from Ukraine, Moscow, Philippines and Kuwait,” Sanjay Krishna said in his Twitter.

Meanwhile, the second day of resumption of passenger flights saw 13 arrivals and departures, mainly connecting Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Silchar and Imphal till Tuesday evening.

A total of 1,409 passengers arrived in Guwahati during the course of the day on Tuesday, while 724 departed for different destinations. The frequency of the flights is likely to increase from Wednesday, subject to weather conditions.

Earlier, on the first day after domestic air travel resumed in India, eight flights carrying 614 passengers landed at Guwahati's Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport, and eight flights took off carrying 349 passengers.

The domestic air travels were suspended in India since March 24 in the purview of COVID-19 pandemic.
