Police officer allegedly assaulted some of the front line health workers during their duty creating massive resentment among the citizens in Chirang district
KOKRAJHAR: On charges of misconduct and negligence of duty, the Superintendent of Police, Chirang has suspended officer-in-charge of Amguri Police Station, Surachandra Doley with immediate effect.
The police officer allegedly assaulted some of the frontline health workers during their duty creating massive resentment among the citizens in Chirang district.
Three medical staffs, including a doctor, sustained injuries due to physical assault by the police officer and others from the Amguri police station.
The incident happened when medical staff from Kajalgaon, had travelled to Amteka area on Sunday along the Indo-Bhutan border area in Chirang district. They were assaulted in front of Amteka MPCH.
Medical staff were identified as Dr Madhurjya Kakoti, accountant Nitu Das and pharmacist Raju Boro who are from Kajalgaon.
“All the health workers were hindered from going to the hospital in Kajolgaon. They were held along with the ambulance on their way to the hospital at Amguri Police Station,” said a medical staff.
Local people from the area have condemned Chirang police for such an act of cruelty against the health workers who have been working dedicatedly towards the containment of COVID-19.
