Assam: KLO recruitment racket busted; 7 rebels held, arms seized

Kokrajhar: Seven hardcore rebels of the Kamatapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) were arrested and a recruitment racket of the banned insurgent outfit was busted during a joint operation of the Army and the police at Chakrasila Reserve Forest in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Thursday.

The rebels were looking for recruitment of youths into the organisation under the leadership of Lankeshwar Koch alias Lambu, a Myanmar-trained self-styled second lieutenant & area commander for lower Assam of the outfit, with active support from four Bangladesh-trained and two-locally trained militants.

The prime target of recruitment was the unemployed and uneducated youths from the area.

Police sources inform that the militants were arrested when they came to attend a meeting inside the forest. A huge quantity of weapons and ammunition were recovered from the militants, which include a total of seven pistols.
