Guwahati: After over 3 days and a night 391 students studying in various coaching centres finally reached Guwahati. They were welcomed by senior cabinet minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma and minister of state, Pijush Hazarika at 3 am on Monday. The students will be put up in a quarantine centre for 14 days before they are allowed to go home.

The Assam government had initially decided not to bring them back during the lockdown. The students were assured that they would be taken care of in Kota in a series of video conferences but they were adamant to come back home. Similar evacuation of students by Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh that lead to a change in heart.

8 Assam police personnel were sent to Kota to escort them back home. Each student paid about Rs 7000 for their bus journey.
