Even as state gears up for lockdown from 6 pm tomorrow, CM Sarbananda Sonowal sets up committee of ministers for better functioning, coordination to fight COVID-19
Guwahati: Embarking on a fight against COVID-19 (coronavirus) on war footing, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday assigned districts to each member of his council of ministers. Under the arrangement, each cabinet minister would monitor the situation in the districts assigned to him.
The minister would be in constant touch with the district administration and In case of any development or any person detected with any sign of COVID-19, the minister would direct the district administration to take necessary steps to cure the person in case he tests positive and ensure the spreading of the virus is contained.
The decision was taken by the chief minister after the video conferencing he held with district commissioners, and superintendents of police (SPs) earlier in the day on Monday.
Meanwhile, though the state has not yet reported any positive case, the government had decided to put the state under lockdown from Tuesday 6 pm to March 31 as a preventive measure to fight the deadly disease that has already claimed nine lives in India.
