Ruling Bodoland People’s Front likely to declare list of candidates today; so far, party has announced 18 candidates for BTC elections to be held on April 4
Guwahati: With the announcement of dates for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, different political parties of Bodoland have started announcing candidates’ list for the 40-seat council. Ruling Bodoland People's Front (BPF) is likely to declare its list of candidates on Friday. So far, the party has announced 18 candidates.
Meanwhile, United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) president Pramod Boro will announce the candidates lists for all 40 seats at the party office in Kokrajhar on Saturday morning.
The list will include woman candidates and representatives from different communities, said a senior party leader.
Senior BPF leader and Assam social welfare minister Pramila Rani Brahma claimed that BPF will win majority seats to form the fourth consecutive term in the council. "BPF is forming the fourth BTC council,” she said.
She said that BPF is working for the uplift and development for all sections of the communities in the region.
Brahma welcomed all political parties including Congress, AIUDF, BJP and UPPL who are coming to participate in the council elections, and said that it shows a healthy democracy.
She is eyeing for peaceful, free and fair elections in the council.
General Secretary of BPF Emanuel Mushahary and Assam minister Rihon Daimary exhorted that BPF will again come to power by winning majority seats in the council elections. The BPF-BJP-AGP alliance is contesting the council elections.
Both BPF leaders said that the party is going to announce candidates list on Friday after finalisation of seat sharing with alliance partners BJP and AGP.
"Bringing development, peace and integration among all sections of the communities are the main poll plank of the BPF,” said the party leaders.
