Assam: Revenue from brick kilns halved in 2019-20 from year ago

As per reports collected from divisional forest offices, there are 669 brick manufacturing kilns, environment & forest minister Parimal Suklabaidya informs Assembly

Guwahati: Assam government's revenue collection from brick kilns as per Assam Mineral Concession Rule, 2013 has drastically dropped from Rs 3.07 crore in 2018-19 to Rs 1.32 crore in 2019 20 (up to January), excluding Sixth Schedule areas.

State environment and forest minister Parimal Suklabaidya replying to questions during the ongoing Budget Session of Assam Legislative Assembly on Thursday informed that the quantum of earth used by brick kilns in 2019-20 (till January) is 362,928.774 m³, which is also half of the previous year which is 655,906.15 m³.

The minister also stated that as per reports collected from Divisional Forest Offices, there are 669 brick manufacturing kilns in Assam.
