Govt taking all precautions & prevention in line with advisories issued by Centre over coronavirus outbreak, health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma assures Assembly
Guwahati: There are no cases of coronavirus-infected persons in Assam till date, said Himanta Biswa Sarma, state minister of health and family welfare, on the second day of the Budget Session of Assam Legislative Assembly in Guwahati on Tuesday.
Replying to a question by MLA Dr Numal Momin he said that a total of 55 persons were suspected of COVID-19, who travelled from China from January 15, of which 46 persons have already completed the observation period of 28 days till February 24. The remaining are under observation in house quarantine for incubation period.
He stated that till now, two persons have been admitted to the isolation ward at Gauhati Medical College & Hospital, Guwahati with mild symptoms. Their samples were collected and tested, and the results were negative.
On the precaution taken by the state for the prevention of coronavirus outbreak in Assam, Sarma said that the government is taking all precautions and prevention in line with the advisories issued by the government of India and in consultation with local offices of World Health Organisation, UNICEF, and other international organisations.
Also, all concerned authorities are being sensitised on actions to be taken, and also to spread awareness among the people, medical teams are deployed in all airports and safety equipment have been assessed.
