Why didn’t Army reveal name of ULFA-I rebel held in upper Assam?

Tinsukia: Troops of Indian Army claimed to have arrested an active member of ULFA (Independent) from Kachijan Village in Tinsukia District of Upper Assam on Monday.

In a press release issued on Wednesday evening, PRO (Defence) Lt Col Sumit K Sharma said, "Based on specific input, the troops swiftly launched an operation in the village and apprehended an ULFA-I cadre."

"The troops also recovered one point 32 pistol, one country made rifle and assorted ammunition," the release said, adding, the apprehended individual has been handed over to the police for further investigation.

Significantly, the press release has not mentioned the name and other relevant information regarding the arrested ULFA cadre.

When contacted, Sharma said, "Yes, asked for it and the information is awaited. Will revert." EastMojo had questioned that the cadre’s name was missing in the press release.

However, 12 hours later on Thursday, this correspondent is yet to receive an answer.
