Guwahati: The Journalists' Forum Assam (JFA) on Friday expressed concern over an alleged incident of eve-teasing of a senior woman journalist near Guwahati Press Club on Monday and demanded necessary action plan for ensuring safety and security of women in the city.

Earlier in the week, the journalist was returning from a function at Ravindra Bhawan when a group of people inside a parked vehicle passed obscene comments.

She retorted and was about to take a picture of the number plate, but they fled from the scene. However, she managed to catch hold of one members of the group who was not in the car. He in turn gave out their details to her.

“We are really shocked that those people inside the vehicle dared to verbally humiliate a woman journalist. It shows their audacity to target women anywhere, anytime as they perhaps start believing that nobody can punish them. The authorities concerned should adopt necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of every woman in public places,” said a JFA statement.
