Assam artistes launch website to create awareness against CAA

In order to make the common masses aware about the negative aspects of CAA, some of the leading artistes of Assam have come forward with an website

Guwahati: Several artistes from Assam launched a website in order to create awareness about the negative aspects of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019 on Thursday in Guwahati.

The website named www.assamagainstcaa.in was launched in a press meet by some of the leading artistes like Barsha Rani Bishaya, Zubeen Garg, Manas Robin, Ravi Sarma and Garima Saikia Garg among others.

CAA was passed by both Houses of Parliament in December last year following which Assam saw a series of protests across the state.

Addressing the media, Manas Robin said, “As soon as CAA was accepted some measures have been undertaken to mislead the people from their path of opposition. A new website has been launch by my artist community to raise voice against CAA in Assam."

Along with the protection of Assam, it is also equally important to present the facts in front of the people of Assam. Several means like social media has been successful in bring people together. In a similar initiative and in order to make the people aware about the negative aspects of CAA, few aware citizens and the artist community have come forward with the platform, added a press release.

Adding, singer Zubeen Garg said that the website “Will provide all details of the movement from the Assamese artist community along with people of state in their fight against the draconian law".

Talking about the website, Barsha Rani Bishaya said, “After this website is launched, every single protest that is carried out against CAA in Assam will be known to every part of the globe. So if anyone shares his view on CAA then they can tag us in our Facebook page too.”

Elaborating on misinterpretations of statements made by artistes, Garima Saikia Garg said, “There has been a miscommunication sent to people across globe about the democratic protest has been spread carried out by our people. Our statements, slogans and songs were misinterpreted by many although the meaning behind it was different.”

Through the website, “every single clause about the citizenship law will be explained in a proper manner,” she added.

Ravi Sarma explained that through the new platform, all people who are revolting against CAA can come together and raise their voices united.
