Guwahati: In a shocking development, a Bangladesh-based militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) has threatened Assam finance and health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of dire consequences for his alleged communal remarks on several occasions in relation to the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in the past few days.

As per sources, the banned Bangladesh-based militant outfit in a letter addressed to the Satradhikar of Moinabari Satra in Assam’s Goalpara district, Apurba Borpujari, allegedly threatened Sarma along with Assam Tourism Development Council chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah. The outfit in its letter also threatened Satradhikar Borpujari of dire consequences if he does not withdraw a case related to Satra’s land immediately.

In the letter, the outfit pointed out that in the past few days, minister Sarma and chairman Baruah have been seen giving out communal statements on CAA row and if they continue to do so, the outfit will be forced to take action.

Meanwhile, Satradhikar Borpujari recently filed a case at Goalpara’s Sarbhog police station in connection with the JMB letter.

Speaking with EastMojo, Sarbhog PS in-charge Sanjib Kumar Das confirmed that a case has been registered in connection with the incident and they are investigating into the matter. Das. however, confirmed that so far there has been no breakthrough and no one has been nabbed in this connection.

Interestingly, reacting to the incident, minister Sarma, while talking to media persons at Assam Sahitya Sabha’s annual meet in Sualkuchi, said that he has not said anything wrong or made a communal statement in the past; so there is nothing to fear about as far he is on the right path.
