BJP Yuva Manch member & party worker among 3 arrested for alleged involvement in vandalising residence of Dibrugarh MP and Union minister Rameswar Teli in Dec last year
Tinsukia: Three persons -- two of them allegedly having links with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) -- were arrested on Monday by Dibrugarh police for their alleged involvement in vandalising the residence of Dibrugarh MP and Union minister Rameswar Teli on the intervening night of December 11 and 12 last year.
The youths have been identified as Debojit Hazarika (37), Arup Kaha (24) and Vicky Sonar (20) -- all residents of Duliajan. Hazarika is said to be a member of BJP Yuva Morcha, while Sonar a worker of BJP.
Speaking with EastMojo, additional superintendent of Dibrugarh police Padmanabh Baruah said that based on evidences collected during the course of Investigation including CCTV footage and account of those who were present on the spot, we have arrested the three persons. "Besides vandalising the house, they had also vandalised an ambulance which had come to evacuate injured policemen,” added Baruah.
Baruah also said, "The arrest has taken up the tally of arrested persons to 18 in the case."
Late on December 11 night, reports of vandalising of the Duliajan residence of Teli allegedly by anti-CAA protesters poured in soon after Rajya Sabha passed CAA . The official also added: "Two policemen sustained bullet injury in the scuffle that took between the protesters and security forces. Although, it is not clear who fired the bullet on the policemen."
Duliajan police station had registered a case number 626/19 under section 120B/147/148/149/153AA/336/353/188/326/307/427/436 IPC r/w Sec 25(1)(a)/27 Arms Act and r/w Sec 4 of PDPP Act.
Speaking with EastMojo, BJP Yuva Morcha president Nayan Das said, “Debojit Hazarika has no links with the Yuva Morcha of BJP."
