Assam: NSCN-K rebel injured in encounter with Army in Tinsukia

Tinsukia: An encounter took place between 9 Rajputana Rifles of the Indian army and the insurgent group National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Khaplang) on the outskirts of Wara Natun basti, along Assam-Arunachal border, in Assam's Tinsukia district on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking with EastMojo, Tinsukia SP Shiladitya Chetia said that the Army had taken out an area domination patrol in the jungle area of Wara Natunbasti. "The soldiers came in contact with an armed group, suspectedly NSCN-K, which resulted in a gunfight. However, there are no casualties."

"There are ground inputs of movement of armed groups. Based on these inputs, police and security forces in tandem, were constantly carrying out counter insurgency operations along Assam- Arunachal boder off late," he added.

A source in the army told this correspondent, that the soldiers, while conducting area domination, spotted three armed youths in black outfit. "When challenged, they opened fire with AK series rifle. In retaliation, one cadre sustained bullet injury on his hand but somehow they managed to escape," the source said, adding that they belonged to the NSCN-K.

"We have cordoned nearby areas and launched a search operation. Some fired cases have been recovered from the encounter spot," the source added.
