This comes in violation of the Flag Code of India, 2002 for hoisting the national flag which specifies that the national flag shall be flown from sunrise to sunset irrespective of weather conditions
Diphu: In a sheer act of negligence, the department of water resources in Diphu forgot to lower the national flag at sunset on Republic Day on Sunday.
The matter came to notice on Monday afternoon when the flag was seen waving at half-mast on Diphu's water resource department's office.
This comes in violation of the Flag Code of India, 2002 for hoisting/display of the national flag by Central and state government and their organisations and agencies, which specifies that the national flag shall be flown from sunrise to sunset irrespective of weather conditions. The flag may be flown on such a building at night also, but only on very special occasions.
However, the situation in hand, what has been understood is that the concerned department had forgotten to lower the national flag. When enquired about the flag, the accountant of the office, Ranjit Terang told reporters over a telephonic conversation that he entrusted one boy, a junior for taking care of the flag, but he forgot.
