Assam: Bodo Peace Accord to be signed at 1.30 in New Delhi today

NDFB-S leaders confirm no new Union territory will be formed. However, according to sources, five to six new districts will be created as per proposed agreement

Guwahati: The Bodo Peace Accord which will bring peace in the Bodoland area of Assam is likely to be signed in New Delhi on Monday around 1.30 pm, informed sources.

Union home minister Amit Shah, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Bodoland Territorial Ccouncil (BTC) chief Hagrama Mohilary, All Bodo Students' Union president Pramod Boro and chiefs of all four factions of NDFB are likely to be the signatories of the accord.

Minister Sarma tweeted saying that the Bodo Peace Accord has full support of the government.

NDFB-S leaders have confirmed that no new union territory will be formed. However, according to sources, five to six new districts will be created as per the proposed agreement.

The territory covered under the agreement is likely to expand up to Dhemaji, including Sonitpur and Biswanath Chariali areas of Assam.

State's social welfare minister Pramila Rani Brahma has welcomed the signing of Bodo Accord. She expressed hope that the accord will be bringing more development and welfare for the common masses of the region.

The Accord, once signed will give more financial power to the new body, and more power will be given to the new administration by creating more departments.

The rights of the non-Bodos will be protected and prominent educational institutes like NEIGRIHMS and others will be set up in the proposed area.

Earlier on Monday, top NDFB leaders visited Amar Jawan Jyoti and Rajghat in New Delhi and paid their respects.
