Assam: Junior engineer held over ‘misappropriation’ of govt funds
Tinsukia: A junior engineer of Kachugaon Development Block of Gossaigaon in Assam's Kokrajhar district was arrested by the anti-corruption bureau police station on Wednesday night around 8 pm on charges of misappropriation of government funds.
The accused has been identified as Achana Rongmei (50).
According to sources in ACB, based on a written complaint regarding misappropriation of government funds with the anti-corruption bureau police station in Guwahati, a case was registered and probe started.
"The complainant, Afsar Ali of Musalmanpara in Kokrajhar (BTAD), alleged that Milan Bazar VCDC chairman Gulsanara Begum (38), has
misappropriated government money sanctioned for the development of the area by issuing false job cards in the name of dead persons, untraced persons, minor persons as well as showing persons from outside the area as local labourers and thereby withdrawing money from their bank accounts, whose accounts were also opened fraudulently by herself," the official said, adding, "The VCDC chairman also misappropriated government sanctioned money without doing the scheme works properly, the complaint read."
"In course of investigation, sufficient evidence was collected against the junior engineer
for his involvement in misappropriation of government money under MGNREGA schemes sanctioned for the development of Milan Bazar VCDC," sources added.
An official said, "On Wednesday, we brought him to Guwahati for interrogation and later arrested him, and he will be produced before the special court today."
