Amid CAA protests, traditional boat race attracts many in Nazira

Altogether six teams from the region participated in the boat race on Dikhow river in Sivasagar district as part of Magh Bihu celebrations; winners given cash prizes

Nazira: Amid ongoing protests against Citizen (Amendment) Act (CAA), locals in collaboration with the Scheduled Caste (SC) Students' Association in Nazira organised a boat race as part of Magh Bihu celebrations in Assam’s Sivasagar district on Friday. People in large numbers gathered at the site of the boat race and wholeheartedly participated in the traditional event.

"This tradition has been going on since the days of our forefathers. And every year we conduct the boat race so that the people can enjoy," said Junmoni Das, a resident of the village.

People of Assam have chosen to stick their roots and culture. An example in this regard was witnessed in upper Nazira where the the boat race was held. Altogether six teams from various places of the area participated in the boat race on Dikhow river. The winners of the boat race were given cash prizes during the event.
