Khelo India: Assam comes 2nd, Manipur 3rd in girls’ weightlifting

Assam’s Gitashree Sonowal wins silver lifting a total of 142 kg (64, 79); Manipur’s Nomita Devi bags bronze lifting a total of 141 kg (61, 80) in girls’ U-21, 49 kg weightlifting event

Guwahati: Assam and Manipur pocketed a silver and bronze each in the girls’ U-21, 49 kg weightlifting event at the ongoing 3rd Khelo India Youth Games 2020 in Guwahati, Assam on Friday.

17-year-old Gitashree Sonowal from Assam won the silver lifting a total 142 kg (64, 79), while Manipur's Nomita Devi (17) bagged the bronze lifting a total of 141 kg (61, 80).

The top spot was bagged by Chandigarh's Veerjeet Kaur. She lifted a total of 143 kg (64, 79).

The weightlifting event was a close call as winners in the sequence had a difference of only 1 kg among each other.
