Guwahati: For Assam's lawn ball bronze medallist Jinu Gogoi, her bowling journey is nothing short of a sporting movie material. The rank holder had started her sporting journey barely three months ago.

Gogoi had a luck-by-chance job, where she was babysitting her employer Bima Borah's 10-month-old child, while she saw Borah play the sport every evening at the Sarusajai Complex in Guwahati.

“I used to watch her play every day, and once, just on a whim, I asked her if she would teach me the sport,” Gogoi was quoted as saying by Khelo India. Three months from that whimsical lesson to partnering with Karina Patowary, she was adjudged as the second runner up in the Under-21 Girls pair event at the lawn bowl green at the 3rd Khelo India Youth Games 2020 in Guwahati on Wednesday.

The bronze medallist hails from Charaideo in upper Assam. Her mother works at a tea garden in Sivasagr managed by Borah’s husband.

Gogoi dedicated her medal to her cancer-stricken father, whose treatment made her drop out of school after Class X. She wants to use her reward to help her father with his treatment.
