Guwahati: The Committee for Implementation of Clause 6 of Assam Accord met Union home minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Monday morning.

A four-member delegation of the committee, headed by Justice (Retd) Biplab Kumar Sharma, elaborated the Union minister about issues relating to the Clause 6 of Assam Accord. However, details of the meeting are still awaited.

Surprisingly, All Assam Students Union (AASU), one of the signatories of the historic Assam Accord, boycotted the Monday meeting with Union home minister.

Speaking with EastMojo, AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said, “Implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord is a must. Centre must implement this. However, they are trying to mislead with masses with CAA and Clause 6 of the historic Accord. Both the issues are different. Don’t try to mix both the issues. We don’t want CAA and on the same way we also demand proper implementation of the Clause 6 of the Assam Accord.”

Severely criticising both the Centre and the state government, AASU leadership has demanded both the government not to confuse people by linking CAA and implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord.

Clause 6 is in no way lined or related with the CAA, which paves the way to grant citizenship to the illegal Bangladeshis who had entered Assam between 19781 and December 31, 2014, Gogoi alleged.
