Guwahati: The second edition of Dwijing XCM (Cross Country Marathon MTB Cycle Race) was held as part of Dwijing Festival in Chirang district of Assam on January 5.
The event was flagged off by the commandant of 15th SSB Battalion DB Sonar. The race, which was 30 km approximately, started and ended in front of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Camp near Koilamoila.
The race was conducted across forest tracks, dirt tracks, dry river beds, gravel tracks through very scenic places that went to the Kalamati area near India-Bhutan border and back to Koilamoila.
Participants from Bhutan, SSB, along with riders from Sikkim, West Bengal, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam took part in the race.
The event was held under two categories -- Men’s Elite and Men's Under 18.
Isaac Rai from SSB team clinched the 1st prize in the category of Men's Elite and was awarded Rs 40,000 and a winner's trophy. Meanwhile, the 2nd prize of Rs 20,000 and the 3rd prize of Rs 15,000 were won by Tshering Dendup from Bhutan and Khundrakpam Ronel Singh from Imphal, respectively.
In the category of Men's under 18, Ialamjingshai Mylliem from Shillong grabbed the 1st prize and was awarded Rs 20,000 and a winner's trophy. Malav Dutta from Guwahati and Prema Wangyal from Bhutan won the 2nd prize with Rs 15,000 and the 3rd prize with Rs 10,000, respectively.
The winners were felicitated at Dwijing Festival ground by Pramila Rani Brahma, minister of environment and forest, Kampa Borgoyary and other dignitaries.
The cycling events were organised by Spokehub Racing (Guwahati) along with Pedal for a Change (Guwahati). It was supported by Dwijing Festival, Assam Tourism Development Corporation, Boroland Tourism and Whacky Talky (Guwahati).
