Disappearance of All Assam Students’ Union’s ‘aanchalik committee’ office-bearer Biju Gogoi from Tinsukia district sets off alarm bells among security forces
Tinsukia: The disappearance of a student leader of All Assam Students' Union's (AASU) 'aanchalik committee' in Tinsukia district has set off alarm bells among security forces.
The development comes at a time when there is a mass protest going on in the state against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment Act (CAA).
Speaking with EastMojo, Tinsukia SP Shiladitya Chetia said that the police received an information on Sunday about the disappearance of a student leader, Biju Gogoi, by his family members. "Gogoi went missing on January 3 after he left his home saying that he was going to Tinsukia," he said.
"We are contacting his relatives and friends to trace his whereabouts. However, we are yet to trace him so far," Chetia said, adding: "We are also exploring any possibility of his joining ULFA-I."
According to sources, Gogoi is an office-bearer of AASU's 'aanchalik committee' in Assam's Tinsukia district and was upset over CAA. There are chances that he may have joined the banned outfit. "The police haven't found any concrete clue even from his phone records," sources said.
There is no official confirmation from ULFA-I whether Gogoi has joined the outfit, sources added.
