Cricketers take time off ahead of India vs Sri Lanka T20I in Assam, visit popular Gam’s Delicacy restaurant to taste many local items. Read on to find out what they relished
Guwahati: While everyone was busy with the first T20I match to be played between India and Sri Lanka at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, former cricket stars like Irfan Pathan and Harbhajan Singh along with commentator-television host Jatin Sapru were seen relishing traditional Assamese dishes at a popular city restaurant, Gam's Delicacy, on Sunday afternoon.
The trio thronged the restaurant around 2.30 in the afternoon and tasted several traditional Assamese items like khar, tenga, local chicken, Aari maas patot diya, alu pitika, masor khar, roasted chicken, borali maasor jhol and sitol maas, among others, amid strict security arrangements made inside the restaurant.
Highly appreciating the menu, some of the team members also tried tamul paan (areca nut with betel leaf).
The chief chef of the restaurant, Kanu Bania, was himself busy preparing the traditional dishes for the star guests. After spending almost 90 minites in the restaurant, the entire team left for their destination, Barsapara Cricket Stadium, where the T20I is to be played between India and Sri Lanka at 7 pm on Sunday.
The security arrangements inside were made in such a way that even the restaurant waiters were not allowed to go inside the barricade made with ropes, said sources.
Everyone was tightlipped due to security reasons and except some, no one in the restaurant was even aware of the fact that some of the high-profile guests will be having lunch there.
However, considering the unusual happenings in the kitchen right from the early morning, unlike the usual lazy Sunday mornings, some of the restaurant staff could sniff that something unusual might happen probably during lunch time.
