Dibrugarh CJM directs staff to use Assamese in all official works

Guwahati: Amid the speculations about fate of ‘Assamese language’ in Assam, the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Dibrugarh on Thursday directed the officials and staff members to use Assamese language for all official works.

CJM Abhijeet Kumar Baruah passed the order to implement Assamese language in all official works, including in petitions/applications, office notes, etc, in compliance with the Assam Official Language Act.

The Assamese Official Language Act was passed in 1960, recognising Assamese as an official language in Assam, while also having provisions for the safeguard of linguistic minorities.
