CAA stir on in Assam: AASU launches 3-day Satyagrah movement 

Protesters march peacefully to DC office in Guwahati. Police detain AASU leaders Samujjal Bhattacharya, Lurin Jyoti Gogoi for few hours.

Guwahati: The All Assam Students Union (AASU) along with it's 30 brotherhood organisations has launched a three day Satyagrah movement at Latasil Ground here from Monday. Over 500 people from the city and adjoining areas participated in the peaceful protests.

The protesters marched to the DC office in the city in a civilised and orgnaised manner in batches of 100 each. “We are doing this because we do not want to disturb the peace and cause any disruption to the law and order situation in the city or the state. Our purpose is not to create any violence but to convey our concerns in a peaceful manner,” Lurin Jyoti Gogoi, General Secreatry, AASU told EastMojo.

Besides raising anti-CAA slogans, the participants also raised ‘Remove CAA or Arrest Us’ slogans.

Eminent personalities from across Assam, including leading film personalities also joined the mass Satyagrah movemnt.

A temporary jail has been set up at the Latasil Police station right next to the venue of the Satyagrah movement.

Police had detained Samujjal Bhattacharyya, Chief Adviser, AASU and Lurin Jypoti Gogoi for a few hours during the protests.

Similar Satyagrah movement is being organised across Assam under the banner of AASU. But these protests would be held only during hours when curfew is relaxed and AASU leaders have already announced and appealed to the students and public in general not to carry out any kind of protests after 5pm everyday.

Curfew in Guwahati has been relaxed for 12 hours from 9am to 9pm. Situation in Guwahati continues to be normal.
