Chabua police station OC Tulumoni Duorah injured in stone-pelting incident in Dibrugarh; 2 vehicles of security forces damaged; loaded truck set on fire on NH-37
Tinsukia: The 48-hour Assam Bandh took a violent turn around 7 on Monday evening after two incidents of stone-pelting and one incident of vehicle burning were reported from Chabua in Assam's Dibrugarh town.
In one incident, the officer-in-charge of Chabua police station, Tulumoni Duorah, was injured and two vehicles of security forces damaged.
Confirming the incident, deputy inspector general of police (NER) Prasanta Bhuyan said stones were pelted on a Bolero of CRPF which was parked at roadside on national highway 37 at Chabua. "OC of Chabua police station has sustained injuries on his teeth after he was hit by stones. He has been admitted."
"Involvement of third party is behind the incident," Bhuyan added.
Sources added, "In another incident, stones were pelted at a gypsy of air force damaging the vehicle."
In a late-night incident, a loaded truck bearing registration number AS-09-C-1698 going from Tinsukia to Guwahati was set on fire on National Highway 37 near Dibrugarh University last night by miscreants. Four fire tenders managed to douse to the fire at about 3.30 am on Tuesday.
