Defying prohibitory orders issued by district magistrate under Section 144 of CrPC, residents come out in hordes to protest against the controversial legislation
Tinsukia: Thousands of residents took out a torch procession from Dihingia village to Thana Charali in Assam's Tinsukia town on Tuesday evening protesting against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB), defying the prohibitory orders of the district magistrate banning any kind of such rallies involving torchlight.
The protestors burnt tyres and shouted slogans against the Modi government, Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal and minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
"We warn the Centre and [CM Sarbananda] Sonowal not to test our patience. We will not accept the Bill even if they pass it in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday," shouted Sanjoy Hazarika of Dehing Gaon Yuva Manch, adding: "We are ready to give our blood. Now we are not going anywhere from here."
