Assam: First CNG bus of state flagged off in Dibrugarh

Development comes 3 months after 1st CNG station of the state was inaugurated by CM at Chowkidingee, paving way for vehicle owners of the town to shift to cleaner fuel

Tinsukia: The first CNG bus of the state was launched in Assam's Dibrugarh town during a ceremony at Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) office at Chowkidingee on Thursday.

The development comes within three months after the first CNG station of Assam was inaugurated by chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal at Chowkidingee in Dibrugarh, paving way for vehicle owners of this upper Assam town to shift to cleaner fuel, and the introduction of CNG bus is likely to boost the aim to shift towards cleaner fuel.

According to sources, this is the first CNG Bus service to operate in the entire State of Assam. "The bus will ply between Dibrugarh town and Mulukgaon," they added.

"Two more city buses were inaugurated during the ceremony," said sources, adding, these buses will operate from Assam Medical College (AMC) to Brahmaputra Cracker Polymers Limited (BCPL) via Dibrugarh University on reciprocal basis. "Each of them are expected to accomplish five rounds of trips per day per bus in the said route. The starting departure time has been fixed as 7 am, 9 am, 11 am, 1 pm, 3 pm & 5 pm with base station between AMC and BCPL.

Dibrugarh DC Pallav Gopal Jha flagged off and inaugurated the operation of CNG bus, the source added.
