Assam: Miscreants snatch Rs 4.66 lakh from trader in Dibrugarh

Incident comes days after a businessman’s employee was shot dead by ‘gang of dacoits’ with a motive to ‘loot’ in the Upper Assam town, besides several snatching cases

Tinsukia: Two motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched a bag containing Rs 4.66 lakh from a businessman in Assam's Dibrugarh town on Thursday afternoon.

The incident comes days after a businessman's employee was shot dead by 'gang of dacoits' with a motive to 'loot' in the upper Assam town, with a steep rise in snatching incidents in several towns of the state, including Tinsukia, Dibrugarh and Dhekiajuli, among others, triggering panic among the business community.

Speaking with EastMojo, officer-in-charge of Dibrugarh police station S Borah said, "The victim, Pawan Dowerah, was returning to his residence on motorcycle after drawing cash from Punjab National Bank when two motorcycle-borne miscreants came from behind and snatched away the bag near Shantipara."

Pawan owns a security agency.

"We are trying to collect CCTV footage from nearby locations," Borah said, adding, "The miscreants are yet to be identified."

Responding to a question by EastMojo, Borah said that the police are yet to arrest those involved in the murder of Om Prakash Agarwal.
