Tinsukia: Two ULFA-I rebels were arrested from Jorhat in Upper Assam after a hot chase foiling a terror attack on security forces and public institutions, the police claimed on Wednesday.

The arrest comes ahead the insurgent groups's protest day, which it observes on November 28.

The arrested youths have been identified as self-styled 'Lance Corporal' Tutu Borah alias Handum Axom (25), a resident of Talap under Doomdooma police station in Tinsukia district, and Juman Borah (21), a resident of Chinamora in Jorhat.

Speaking with EastMojo, Tinsukia SP Nilesh Sawakare said, "Tutu Borah is a trained cadre from Myanmar involved in many incidences in Tinsukia and Juman Borah was involved in the recruitment for Ulfa-I."

According to police sources, based on an information, Tinsukia police launched an operation and nabbed the rebels.

"The cadres were arrested after a hot chase from Jorhat town. They were on a mission to cause sabotage on security forces and public institutions on the occasion of ULFA protest day," said sources, adding: "Few personal belongings have also been seized from their possession."
