Tinsukia: It was a regular Thursday for all in Assam's Dibrugarh district, but for Mehtab Ahmed, owner of a hospital in the upper Assam town.

An uninvited guest made its way into his residence. Its appearance shocked everyone, as the guest turned out to be a popular big cat -- the leopard.

The incident comes months after images of a Royal Bengal Tiger that had apparently strayed out of the flooded national park and somehow ended up 'relaxing' on a bed in a house near the national highway in Assam made headlines.

According to sources, the incident took place at Paltan Bazar, a medical hub of this upper Assam town. "The big cat strayed into the residence of Mehtab Ahmed and made its way from the drawing room to the kitchen," said a source.

"Fear gripped the entire locality as the leopard attacked Ammamuddin Ahmed on his face and scalp before 'relaxing' in the kitchen of Ahmed's residence,” a source said, adding: “Ammamuddin was seen running out of the house, bleeding profusely. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is being treated."

The leopard also killed a cat inside the house, an eyewitness claimed.

Speaking with EastMojo, Dibrugarh divisional forest officer Prabhakar Das said, "We have called an expert, a doctor with Wildlife Trust of India. He was at Kaziranga National Park when the incident was reported and has reached the spot."

"The leopard will be tranquilised and rescued. A team of forest department has been placed at the spot to help the doctor," added Das.

Responding to a question, Das said he is yet to assess from where the leopard might have strayed into the residential locality.

EastMojo has questioned the possibilities from where Leopard might have strayed into Ahmed's residence, which is close to Brahmaputra river, so that man-animal conflict, which is on rise in the state of Assam, can be avoided.
