SMIT hosts maiden ‘Curiosity’ quiz competition in Assam

1st prize bagged by Axel Public School, followed by DPS & Don Bosco; eminent academicians felicitated at event organised by Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology in Guwahati

Guwahati: Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) hosted its annual inter-school/junior college quiz competition titled ‘Curiosity’ for the first time in Assam. The quiz competition-cum-valedictory function, which was held at Pragjyotish ITA Machkhowa in Guwahati on Friday, also felicitated three prominent academicians of the state.

A total of 54 teams from various schools and colleges of Guwahati participated in the event which started from 9:30 am. Teams battled each other in various rounds and the final six teams were selected to represent their respective institutions. With a cash prize amounting to a total of Rs 1 lakh, the final six gave their best performance.

Finally, the first prize was claimed by Axel Public School, which won two laptops with trophies and certificates, followed by Delhi Public School Guwahati and Don Bosco School, which won two Kindle e-readers each.

“Firstly, 2020 is the silver jubilee of the establishment of Sikkim Manipal University and this is like a curtain-raiser for the same. Secondly, Assam has been giving us the highest number of students and faculty members. So, we thought, it would be good to visit Assam and conduct an event of this stature and magnitude in the city of Guwahati,” says Dr Ashish Sharma, director of SIMT, when asked about the uniqueness of this year’s ‘Curiosity’.

The quiz competition was followed by a valedictory function where some academicians were felicitated for their contributions. The academicians who were felicitated on Friday programme include Lel Bahadur Chetry, Niranjan Chandra Deka, and Jogendra Nath Chakraborty.
