At just 27 inches, this youth could be the shortest in Assam
Kokrajhar: Abdur Rashid Mondal is all of 17 years old but is just 27 inches tall. The Sonaimoipora village resident of Assam’s Kokrajhar is now the talk of the town, with social media users even claiming that he could well be the state’s shortest man.
Mondal had a premature birth -- he was born during the eighth month of his mother’s pregnancy. He weighed just 800 gm then. Doctors say this could be the reason behind his stunted growth.
He is the only son among a family of six, three of his siblings being girls. “Mondal has been undergoing treatment since his birth,” said Eman Ali Mondal, his father.
Mondal’s father added that his wife had to be diagnosed for a disease while she was pregnant. With numerous rounds of treatment and after selling off numerous properties for his son’s treatment, there have been no signs of improvement or growth in his height, added his father.
The mysterious case of Mondal came to light when his father took him to Kokrajhar to do some personal work in the town. After noticing the abnormality, media persons gathered around and started to make queries for his abnormality where Mondal’s father briefed the crowd.
In the briefing, Eman Ali Mondal said that he was hopeful that his son will get healthier in the days to come as he is not giving up any hope and is still letting his son undergo for treatment at the RNB Civil Hospital in Kokrajhar.
When asked about Mondal’s educational status, the father said: “He is now studying at Kawoimari Madrassa School of Dhubri district along the bordering area with Kokrajhar.” Mondal’s father further requested media persons that he is seeking for financial aid for his son’s treatment from well-wishers.
