Rail link between Guwahati and Tinsukia/Dibrugarh snapped due to heavy rain resulting in rise of water levels between Bokajan and Chongajan stations
Tinsukia: Rail link between Guwahati and Upper Assam's Tinsukia and Dibrugarh has been snapped due to heavy rain resulting in rise of water levels between Bokajan and Chongajan stations, a reason to worry for thousands of travellers during the festive season.
A press statement issued by the CPRO of NF Railway Subhanan Chanda on Monday read: "Due to heavy rain and resultant rise in water level in area between Bokajan and Chongajan stations at Km 274 / 8-9 in Lumding-Furkating single line section under Lumding division of NFR, train running has been affected since yesterday evening. As a result many trains have been diverted, cancelled or short terminated as given below."
The trains that have been cancelled on October 28 include: 12086 Dibrugarh-Guwahati Shatabdi Express, 15968 Dibrugarh-Rangiya Intercity Express of 28.10.19, 55904 Mariani-Dimapur passenger of 28.10.19, 55902 Tinsukia-Lumding passenger of 28.10.19, 12088 Guwahati–Naharlagun Shatabdi Express will remain cancelled between Guwahati and Naharlagun, 55903 Dimapur-Mariani passenger will remain cancelled between Dimapur and Mariani.
On October 29, 55901 Lumding–Tinsukia passenger will remain cancelled.
Besides cancellations, two trains have been diverted. These include 15903 Dibrugarh - Chandigarh Express, which has been diverted via New Sisiborgaon –Rangapara – Rangiya instead of normal route via New tinsukia–Dimapur–Lumding–Guwahati, and 15909 Dibrugarh – Lalgarh Avadh Assam Express, which has been diverted via New Sisiborgaon – Rangapara – Rangiya instead of normal route via New tinsukia – Dimapur – Lumding – Guwahati.
A host of other trains has been been short terminated or partially cancelled, the released added.
The 15717 Guwahati–Mariani Intercity Express of October 27 was short terminated at Bokajan and will remain partially cancelled between Bokajan and Mariani.
On October 28, 15718 Mariani–Guwahati Intercity Express will start from Dimapur and will remain partially cancelled between Mariani and Dimapur.
The 15934 Amritsar – Dibrugarh express which started from Amritsar on October 25 will be short terminated at Dimapur and will remain partially cancelled between Dimapur and Dibrugarh. The same train to leave on October 29 as 15933 Dibrugarh – Amritsar express will start from Guwahati instead of Dibrugarh, and stanfs partially cancelled between Dibrugarh and Guwahati.
The 15910 Lalgarh–Dibrugarh Avadh Assam Expess which started on October 25 has been short-terminated at Dimapur and will remain partially cancelled between Dimapur and Dibrugarh. The down train as 15909 DN Avadh Assam Express will start from Guwahati on October 29 and stands cancelled between Dibrugarh and Guwahati.
The release added that senior railway officials of Lumding Division are at site and restoration work is in progress. "Adequate arrangements for providing basic amenities to passenger of the cancelled or short-terminated trains have been made in all stations."
The sudden disruption of railway service has caused immense problem for travellers who had gone to their home for Diwali and were to travel to their workplaces.
