Guwahati: Assam boxer Jamuna Boro secured a unanimous 5-0 win over Mongolia’s Erdenedalai Michidmaa in 54 kg to win her first round match at the ongoing Women’s World Boxing Championships in Russia’s Ulan-Ude city on Friday.

Earlier, she bagged the gold in India Open boxing tournament in the 54 kg category in May this year, beating Sandhyarani Devi 5-0 in the final bout.

In July, Boro added another gold to her collection when she defeated Italy’s veteran boxer Giulia Lamagna 5-0 at the 23rd President’s Cup in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia.

The Indian boxer booked her entry into the Women’s World Boxing Championships after fighting out a stiff resistance from Shiksha, who had earlier stunned the Cologne Boxing World Cup gold medallist Meena Kumari in a gruelling encounter to reach the final.

Hailing from Sonitpur, Boro started her career as a wushu player. She is now registered with the Boxing Federation of India and is an employee of the Assam Rifles. She plays boxing through All India Police.
