As per sources, the survivor, who was on the way to her son-in-law’s house, was forced by the accused to board a train, before committing the heinous crime in Baksa district
Guwahati: A woman, hailing from Dhekiajuli locality in Assam’s Sonitpur district, was allegedly raped by a stranger at Kosubari area of Baksa district recently.
The accused has been identified as Kumud Das, a resident of Dhekiajuli town in Sonitpur.
As per sources, the survivor who was on the way to her son-in-law’s house was forced by Das to board a train to Rangiya. He later committed the heinous crime taking her to a jungle near the Rangiya railway station.
Looking at the deteriorating health condition, Das then decided to take the survivor to a nearby civil hospital.
The incident came to light only after a group of local women upon suspicion questioned Das and the survivor and subsequently came to know about the crime.
Speaking to media, a local woman informed that she along with her friends saw the woman fainting. Upon suspicion, they questioned the survivor and found out that she was allegedly raped by the person who was accompanying her to the hospital.
“Upon suspicion, we questioned her and she revealed that Das forcefully brought her to Rangiya station and committed the heinous crime,” she added.
Following his disclosure, Das tried to flee the spot but was caught by the locals. They then handed him over to the local police station. “I bought her to Rangiya on the promise of marriage,” claimed Das, responding to questions by the locals.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Rangiya police station.
