Party fully prepared to contest 2020 elections in Bodoland Territorial Council; open to discussion on seat-sharing if anybody wants pre-poll aliance, says president UG Brahma
Kokrajhar: The United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) is fully ready to contest the upcoming BTC general council election due in March-April 2020 next year, announced party president Urkhao Gwra Brahma. However, there is no word of unification with the ruling Bodoland People’s Front (BPF),” he added.
Brahma was addressing a special convention of the Kokrajhar district unit of the UPPL held at its Dotma office complex on Saturday.
During the convention, a minority cell of the UPPL of Kokrajhar district unit was formed with Jahirul Islam as president and Manser Ali Sheikh as secretary along with 45 executive members of the party.
The session was chaired by president of the Kokrajhar district unit of UPPL, Vidhyadhar Brahma Choudhury, and several hundred party workers and well-wishers from different block committees who participated in the convention.
Brahma, who is former Rajya Sabha MP, while attending the convention, said that his party is fully ready to contest the upcoming council general elections and so far district unit committees have been organising their convention and session in their respective areas.
He said that UPPL's door is open to discussion on seat sharing if anybody wants to share integrity for upcoming BTC council elections and wants a pre-poll alliance. He added that the party is totally prepared to contest the elections.
While reacting to the BPF president Hagrama Mohilary's recent remarks for unification of the parties, he said there is no question of unification with parties. He was surprised that Mohilary offered Rajya Sabha seat to UG Brahma, who is UPPL party chief and several seats to existing party MCLAs. He emphasised that the offer must reach in the name of party, not in the name of an individual. He said that party wanted seat sharing with ruling BPF party for which why there was preliminary discussion among the representative delegation on the seat sharing.
"There was a preliminary discussion on seat sharing with BPF party amongst the representative delegation level. There was no word of unification and we will go ahead with party ideology. If other parties in coming days expresses their well gesture for alliance, there will be an alliance in coming days,” he said.
Brahma clearly informed, "We didn't have any discussion on the unification of the parties, we had shared only communication with the BPF party for establishing relations, but not held any seat sharing or unification till today."
On the issue of BTAD army formation initiated by Lok Sabha MP Naba Kumar Sarania on Sunday at Pathshala, Brahma said, "I don't know what to be formed…by naming BTAD army in the BTAD region which was patronage by MP Sarania".
He alleged that the scheduling initiative taken by Sarania is going parallel like Shiv Sena in BTAD. Brahma said that Sarania is now becoming ideal-less as he is patronising to form BTAD army among the society.
Among others, UPPL leader and BTC MCLA Jyotirindra Brahma and party leader Rabiram Ujir were also present on the occasion.
