Baksa native John Sarania, who represented state at many national games, is having a tough time balancing his sporting career with other activities to earn his livelihood
Baksa: Despite bringing laurels to the state in many national-level football competitions, leading Assam forward, John Sarania, is going through a tough time in balancing his football career with other activities to earn his livelihood.
Hailing from Baghdoba village in Goreswar of lower Assam’s Baksa district, the 19-year-old lad, who is representing Assam again for the NE zonal round of senior national football championship for Santosh Trophy 2019-20 to be held in Tripura, is living with his mother in penury after the sudden demise of his father when he was just 11 years old. Since then, his mother is trying hard to ends meet to help his son pursue his passion.
Besides representing the state at Santosh Trophy, Sarania also played for the state at the Subroto Cup and several Under-14 and Under-19 national-level matches held at different locations of the country, including Chennai, Delhi, Jamshedpur, Jamshedpur and many others.
Speaking to media, Sarania’s mother expressed that he had played many national-level games since the age of 14 and also won several medals and trophies for the state. “However, despite bringing laurels to the state on several occasions, the state government has failed to recognise my son and not much is being done by the authorities concerned to help us over years,” she regretted.
Interestingly, it has also been informed that due to absence of an elder male person at the house, Sarania has to look after all the household activities, including the earnings of the house.
Sarania’s mother further revealed that because of the added responsibilities, the young footballer is not getting much time for his normal soccer practices. “However, it is not affecting his game so far but his career growth is obviously stagnant as of now,” she expressed.
Meanwhile, Sarania’s mother urged the state government to address to their sufferings and help her son shine in his football career. “I have seen his passion, skill and love for soccer. He will definitely shine if he is guided and assisted properly,” expressed Sarania’s mother.
Sarania, who is a member of the Goreswar football club, is the first football player from Baksa district to represent the state at national-level games.
