Guwahati: In a video doing the rounds of social media, a Railway Protection Force (RPF) jawan was publicly thrashed for purportedly attempting to outrage the modesty of a women in a Rangiya-bound train on Tuesday.
According to sources, the incident took place at 3.15 in the afternoon between Rowta and Mazbat railway stations in Assam’s Udalguri district.
NF Railway CPRO Subhanan Chanda said, "Departmental enquiry is going on... and the jawan has been suspended until further advice."
The jawan was in uniform during the time of incident, and has been identified as PR Shukla. He hails from Uttar Pradesh, added the source.
As per some reports, the accused allegedly tried to rape an unidentified woman in the washroom of the Murkongselek-Rangiya train following which the angry public thrashed him at Udalguri railway station. He was later handed over to Tangla Government Railway Police (GRP).
