Up to four unauthorised transactions made from Someswar Hazarika’s bank account after his ATM card was hacked; case registered at Biswanath police station
Biswanath: Amidst much hue and cry across the state over cyber crimes, a security guard working in Assam’s Biswanath district was cheated of all his month’s salary after his ATM card got hacked recently.
As per sources, Someswar Hazarika, a security guard working at a private finance division of Biswanath district, had to part away with all his savings at his Bank of India (BoI) account amounting to nearly Rs 18,000 after fraudsters allegedly made unauthorised transactions with his ATM card.
Speaking to media persons, Hazarika said that on Tuesday evening, Rs 5,000 was debited from his bank’s savings account without his consent. He was alerted about the unauthorised transaction after he received a message on his registered mobile number. Subsequently, he received two more messages of similar transactions of Rs 5,000 each later in the day.
Interestingly, another Rs 3,000 was allegedly debited from Hazarika’s account by the fraudsters on Wednesday when he was inquiring into the unauthorised transactions from his account with the bank’s branch manager.
Expressing grief, Hazarika said that all his month’s salary has been stolen by the fraudsters and he does not have any money to spare for the month’s expenses.
Meanwhile, Hazarika has filed a case at Biswanath police station. However, the police are yet to start any investigation, he alleged.
Earlier on September 6 this year, Mumbai police arrested two Turkish youths who were involved in as many as 60 ATM fraud cases in Guwahati. The accused duo, identified as Abdul Halik Yurgan and Eurah Igadi, were arrested from a hotel at Colaba area in Mumbai.
