Shyam Kumar Sharma was shot dead by a group of miscreants reportedly mistaking him for Shyam Sundar Sharma, owner of the hardware shop, in Guwahati on Thursday
Guawahati: Investigations into the killing of an employee at a business establishment at Kumarpara locality in Assam’s Guwahati city on Thursday have led to the police detaining 15 persons from different parts of the state till Friday.
Speaking to media persons, Guwahati police commissioner Deepak Kumar said that the police are taking up a quick investigation process taking leads received from eyewitnesses and other sources. He further assured that all those involved in the killing will be booked soon.
Earlier on Thursday, the cashier of a hardware shop, Kuresia Steels Enterprise, at Kumarpara area of Guwahati was shot dead by a group of unidentified miscreants in the evening hours reportedly mistaking him to be the owner of the shop.
As per reports, the employee, identified as Shyam Kumar Sharma, was shot from a point-blank range by the group of unidentified miscreants upon reportedly mistaking him for the owner, Shyam Sundar Sharma, at the shop.
It has also been alleged that the group of five men had tried to extort a certain amount of money from the owner of the business establishment but ended up shooting the cashier apparently due to a case of mistaken identity.
Meanwhile, joint commissioner of police Devraj Upadhyaya visited the spot soon after the incident and started an investigation into the killing.
