Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court on Friday rejected the bail plea of all the 45 accused in connection with the infamous Dokmoka mob-lynching case that took place in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district in June last year.

The high court also rejected an anticipatory bail plea of four of the accused in connection with the case.

The statement was forwarded following a single bench comprising Justice Rumi Kumari Phukan on Friday heard at length the arguments from the counsels of the accused, Assam government and the advocate representing family members of the victims.

As per sources, the primary ground for rejection of the bail was given highlighting to the Supreme Court’s judgement in relation to the Anil Kumar Yadav case as cited by the victim’s advocate Bijon Kumar Mahajan. Yadav, who was facing a trial under Section 302 and 201 of IPC, was granted bail by a session court which was subsequently cancelled by the apex court.

In one of the most brutal mob-lynching incidents that took place at Dokmoka in Karbi Anglong district, two youths from Guwahati Abhijeet Nath and Nilotpal Das, were brutally thrashed and became victims of fake social media messages identifying them as child kidnappers on June 8, 2018.

It has already been one year now with several hearings made in connection to the case, however justice still remains awaited.

All the accused have been taken into judicial custody and are currently lodged at the Nagaon district jail.
