Located in Guwahati, Piazza bags ‘Best Italian Restaurant of the Year 2019’ in east India title at 9th Annual Indian Restaurant Congress in New Delhi
Guwahati: Within a year of its inception, Piazza, a Guwahati-based cafe-restro has brought great honour to the state after it won the ‘Best Italian Restaurant of the Year 2019’ in east India at the 9th Annual Indian Restaurant Congress held in JW Marriott, New Delhi.
The awards were presented to the promoter, Vinay Chamaria and director Rajarshi Pathak of Piazza, by BJP national vice-president Shyam Jaju.
Indian Restaurant Awards 2019 is a platform where the innovators get felicitated for their business excellence and for taming business challenges.
The journey for this modern European café-bar began in 2018 with an idea to provide the best and delectable pizzas in Guwahati, Assam. Depressed by the lack of taste in the kind of pizzas found in the state capital, Chamaria along with a few of his friends thought of the idea of opening a pizza café.
“The journey started with just a straight-up pizza café which now has transformed to the reality that we see today,” Chamaria told EastMojo. “With more than 4,000 restaurants all over India competing for 30 categories, our win was quite an unexpected one,” he added.
The process for the nominations started with the restaurant owner sending their profile after which the Indian Restaurant Congress selected a few for the nominations. After paying the nomination fee members from the jury interviewed the owners over phone to try and decipher their reasons behind opening a restaurant business. After understanding the vision behind the business the jury members then looked up at marketing campaigns undertaken by the restaurant over the year.
Speaking about the win, the promoter of Piazza said, "We dedicate this win to every customer and employee with whom we have engaged ever since our inception. We started Piazza as an uber- café and it has evolved into something really aspiring because of the love and faith of our customers.”
About the recipe behind their mouth-watering pizzas Chamaria spilled a little secret, “We experimented with over 50 recipes for the dough base of the pizza for two continuous months and only then did we come up with our original version.”
“We will soon surprise our patrons with a member’s only lounge -- Notte. The setup is more like an art-house with fine renaissance and urban elements to rejuvenate your dark senses,” said Chamaria when asked about future prospects of the restaurant.
“We have had inquiries about franchisee opportunity at the IRC Awards and other-wise and we will soon be announcing a second outlet in Assam. But then again there can be only one Piazza,” said Piazza’s director Pathak.
