Guwahati: Keeping aside all speculations following his resignation both from the Rajya Sabha and the Congress party recently, former senior Congress leader from Assam, Bhubaneswar Kalita joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the party headquarters in New Delhi on Friday afternoon.
Addressing media persons, Kalita said that he took the decision opposing the Congress party’s stand following the Centre’s decision to scrap Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir.
Kalita joined the BJP in the presence of Union minister and BJP leader Piyush Goyal and other senior leaders of the party.
Earlier, Kalita’s resignation was accepted on the day when Union home minister Amit Shah moved the resolution to scrap provisions of Article 370 and bifurcation of the state of Jammu & Kashmir into two Union territories.
