The 10-year-old Sivasagar boy’s first song, ‘Akashi Ganga’, was a tribute to Bhupen Hazarika on the music maestro’s death anniversary in 2014
Guwahati: Music lovers in the state, especially those from Sivasagar district of Assam, are keeping their fingers crossed as 10-year-old local boy Harshit Nath has been selected in the ‘top 16’ of the singing reality show, Superstar Singer.
Harshit won hearts of all the judges from his singing in the audition round.
Speaking exclusively to EastMojo, Harshit’s mother said that first he auditioned in Guwahati and then was called to Kolkata for further auditions. Since he was appearing for his examination, they missed it. Next, they went to Mumbai where he was selected for the studio round.
Harshit’s first song, Akhakhi Ganga, was a tribute to music maestro Bhupen Hazarika which he sang on Bhupen da’s death anniversary in 2014, Harshit’s mother Somu Nath revealed.
Before joining the show, the young singer trained at Audio City in Sivasagar, which grooms students to sing with the help of tracks and also teaches about performing art, dress code and how to perform on stage and studio as well.
Harshit is, without doubt, one of the contestants that caught the judges and his ‘captain’s consideration of the present. His parents belong to a poor background and couldn’t afford him to provide musical instruments. So he used to practise on the ‘Tanpura’ mobile app.
Superstar Singer, currently being aired on Sony TV, is being judged by popular singers Himesh Reshammiya, Alka Yagnik and Javed Ali.
Beside judges, there are four mentors in the show called ‘captains’ who are training the singers for their better performance. They are Nitin Kumar, Salman Ali, Jyotica Tangri and Sachin Kumar Valmiki.
