Guwahati: With floods affecting over 38 lakh residents and claiming the lives of at least 66 people in Assam, youths from Guwahati undertook a small act of charity while commemorating the second death anniversary of Chester Bennington, the lead vocalist for American rock band Linkin Park on Saturday.

Floods have hit over 2,000 villages, and have damaged over 1,35,266 hectares of cropland this year. Though water levels have started receding in several areas of the state, another heavy spell of rain might get the destructive waters back on track.

The music event was organised by Groove IN Jam Pad at Wild by Nature Dine Way Platz at Guwahati where many music enthusiasts from the city came together to remember Bennington.

Bennington, who was featured in Hit Parader magazine’s list of ‘100 Metal Vocalists of All Time’ at number 46, was found dead at his home in California on July 20, 2017. His death was ruled a suicide by hanging.

Sajid Ahmed, organiser of the event, said, “This is the third edition of the event and we do it every year in the memory of Chester just to keep his songs and memories alive. This time, we did it for a cause as over 40lakhs people have been affected by floods and we here in Guwahati are urging everyone to donate for the victims.”

The fundraiser collected clothes and shoes from the audience and brought basic amenities like rice bags, biscuits, sanitary pads for the flood victims. They were donated through a youth-run NGO, Feeding India Guwahati.

The event was highlighted by Ether, a Siliguri-based electronic band, and Lady Midday from Guwahati, besides other local talents who set the stage on fire with some of Linkin Park’s popular numbers such as Numb and Leave out all the rest, among others.

“We are here to celebrate the death anniversary of one of the finest vocalists, Chester Bennington, from the band Linkin Park, one the finest bands of the 90s. This event is also contributing for the Assam floods,” said Himon Chaudhury, a vocalist for Lady Midday.
