Assam: K-pop star Jang Hanbyul wows fans in Diphu live concert

The former lead vocalist of South Korean rock band LEDApple has a huge fan following in the region, especially in Northeast India

Diphu: Popular Korean singer and television personality Jang Hanbyul performed live at a concert organised by Musik-A at the Joysing Doloi Auditorium of Diphu town in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Sunday.

The music event was an attempt to connect fans of the region to their beloved K-pop star through the concert supported by the Karbi Anglong Chamber of Commerce.

Hanbyul, the former lead vocalist of South Korean rock band LEDApple, made his official debut with mini-album CODA on November 2011. He has a huge fan following in the region, especially in Northeast India.

The singer was provided a warm welcome by his fans gathered at the Reaction Park situated along the Diphu-Manja road of the district. He was greeted with the traditional Karbi ‘Poho’ (a white turban) and a banquet by the local youths waiting to get a glimpse of the artiste. Fans also collected signed autographs from the Korean singer.

The K-pop singer won hearts by performing some of his popular songs besides a few Hindi cover songs at the concert.

Speaking to the media, the Korean singer thanked everyone for organising such a beautiful event which very much helped him in connecting to fans from the region.

“This was my first visit to India and my first live performance here and I am looking forward to perform in more events like this in future,” he said.

The K-pop singer further thanked everyone for the love and support they have shown to him and attending the live concert.

Inaugurating the live mini concert, Musik-A director and popular Naga singer Alobo Naga expressed that there is a huge craze for K-pop music and a growing fan base in India, especially in the Northeastern states, over the past five years.

“The trend that started somewhere in Manipur because those days CD /cassettes were available in Myanmar and people started watching Korean drama and also developed love for K-pop music,” he added.

The well-known rock artiste from the region further appreciated the Karbi Anglong Chamber of Commerce for organising such a beautiful event in Diphu which made it possible for fans to watch Jang Hanbybul live in a mini concert.
