Guwahati: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) in association with the Akshaya Patra Foundation of Guwahati is continuously volunteering in relief works for the people of Assam affected by the devastating flood across various parts of the state.
AAI employees posted in Guwahati along with members of the Bengaluru-based non-profit organisation are distributing packed drinking water and ready-to-serve meals to over 1,01,085 inmates sheltering in 226 relief camps across the state.
Encouraging the AAI workers volunteering to the flood relief works, apart from their regular duties, AAI-NER regional executive director Sanjeev Jindal also joined the drive initiated at various locations of North Guwahati in Kamrup district on Sunday. The top AAI official volunteered for flood relief works initiated at the relief camps located at the Jagadhri Asthan Gano Temple in Kamrup block and other places where affected people are taking shelters along with their cattle.
Speaking with the flood-affected people, Jindal assured them of all possible help from the AAIU till they are settled in their houses in their respective native places and normalcy is restored. Members of Akshaya Patra foundation also accompanied him in supplying freshly-cooked meals to people housed in all the relief camps.
“Since the news of flood and embankment break came to the notice of AAI, we are volunteering for supply of food and drinking water to the affected people,” he said.
Jindal further assured the people of providing relief materials by airlifting them from different parts of the country to them free of cost. He also added that a committee has been constituted at AAI Guwahati for helping flood relief works in the state.
